Hello everyone! I'm very sorry for not updating you lately. Now that I am though, I have news about our project! Our poetry slam was held March 26th at the Bethalto Public Library. Fortunately our turnout was way better than expected! We had quit a few people show that had either seen our flyer and became interested, or were personally invited by myself or one of my group members. The start was a little shaky mostly due to people being shy I would imagine. But once we got it rolling, everyone seemed interested in sharing either pieces they had written, or pieces by their favorite writers, etc. People seemed to enjoy the calm atmosphere and the food that was provided. Since this was a success we are looking into potentially hosting an annual, or maybe even seasonal poetry slam. This will help us accomplish our main goal and that is to get the community involved and influenced.

Hello everyone. It has been a while since I last posted so here's an update. In the last post we were waiting on a confirmation email from the manager at Hayner Public Library. Well my partner Savannah received an email informing us that they would not be able to host our event at their library. Fortunately, Savannah volunteers at the Bethalto Public Library and was able to contact the manager there. We were informed that we could host there but we are currently working on a date that works for everyone in our group, and at the library. We are looking at the end of March for our event, maybe even the beginning of April if need be. While the date is pending, we will continue to add onto our flyer. I will update you again once we have everything set in stone!
Hey guys! So as of right now we sort of have a place to host...Savannah got an email back and we might have an idea of where we will be hosting our first event! Which will hopefully be advertised soon! As you all know as of the last few blogs we have been working on a flyer and will be posting those around the school and town once we get them completed! We have also been thinking more about the details of our event since it will hopefully be coming soon. We were thinking and realized that we have been directing the word "poetry" to you guys quite a bit lately. Soooo we decided to let you all know that any kind of "poetry" is accepted/welcome at this event! Whether it is spoken word or just any written "poem" that you have put work into! It is all welcome.. We want to see as many people there as possible and we are looking for a good turn out so keep this in mind! More information is in the running and we hope to update you soon!
Hey guys! I hope everyone's having a great year so far! So just a little update on our progress. We have found a place to host out event! YAY!! We are still waiting on a final answer from the reference we were given by a friend. Once she emails us back, we will figure out a date and time and hopefully have an event soon! So we got some stuff accomplished last semester, but this semester is going to be super busy! We have quit a bit to get done by April 30th, which is the day we are presenting our final results of our project. So as you all know, our original idea was to expand the poetry community. Thankfully we haven't had many complications and we have been able to stick with our plan. At the moment we are thankfully getting to where we need to be and will hopefully keep moving forward! In my last blog I provided you all with our draft for our flyers and we will be finishing those and getting them put up soon! Happy 2019!!
Hey guys! So we've been working out some details and we have some fresh information for you this week! We have gotten a few answers to our emails that Savannah sent out about our location. We currently have a pending yes from the Bethalto Public Library and the Edwardsville Public Library. We are waiting on a response from the Hayner Public Library in Alton. So considering this information we could potentially have a location for our event set up by next weeks blog! YAY! We have also been coming up with some ideas for advertising. So far we have gotten some rough drafts/outlines set up and an idea of the way we want to arrange our information. Savannah has currently been working on the designs for our flyers and they are looking great! We will most likely begin advertising by next weeks blog, or at least have our flyers printed. But that all depends on if we get a definite place set in stone. If things keep running smoothly, hopefully our event we will be able to get our event up and rolling within a few weeks! -Madi Hi sisters! We have been working on some things since last weeks blog. Savannah has began contacting some locations and we have gotten turned down a couple of times, but that's okay! We still have yet to hear from the few other places that we have gotten a hold of. Morgan and I will most likely begin brainstorming ideas for advertising our event. Although we have yet to set up our location for the event, we will just add those details in later! While we work on poster and flyer ideas, Savannah will continue to search for a place we can host at. I think that if we work out some details on the amount of people and things like that then maybe we will be able to find a place easier. We will most likely have sketches/drafts of poster and flyer ideas by next weeks blog so hopefully you guys will get to see those! We are thinking that each of us will come up with an idea or two and then we can compare our ideas and hopefully put them together to create some great flyers for advertising our event
-Madi Hi everyone! So this is the first of the many blogs to come, I will blog weekly. So just a little introduction to myself and our project. I'm Madi a student at Civic Memorial High School and I am working with my two group mates, Savannah and Morgan on our 20 time project. For those of you who don't know what a 20 time project is, it is a year round project that our English teacher has assigned in which we get 20% of time in class to work on it and we have to benefit/influence the community in some way. So to sum up the goal of our 20 time project, we are basically working to expand the poetry community by putting on spoken word poetry slams and open mics. We are currently trying to find a location to hold our first event, once that is accomplished we will start advertising! Our hopes are that we will be able to hold our first event at the Bethalto public library, but if that is unavailable, we are hoping to find a restaurant that will allow us to hold an open mic. My job in the group is to begin advertising, which I will be starting as soon as we have our location set in stone. In the group as a whole I feel that we will need to educate ourselves more on advertising and hosting an event as well as making a website, because none of us have much experience with these. Also, since this is my very first blog post I unfortunately do not have any photos to share with you. I should have one for next weeks blog though! -Madi |
